Vanderbilt alumna awarded prestigious 2020 Rhodes Scholarship
Dec. 6, 2019—Sarena Martinez, a 2016 Vanderbilt graduate who majored in psychology and minored in French, was recently named a recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. She is one of only 32 scholars selected from across the United States for 2020.

Rising VU juniors selected for Fulbright Summer Institutes in the U.K.
May. 23, 2019—Druv Vohra and Colin Fricker have been selected by the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission to participate in the Fulbright Summer Institutes, one of the most prestigious and selective summer scholarship programs operating worldwide. The Summer Institutes support the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission’s work to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange.
Sophomore earns Department of Defense SMART Scholarship
May. 16, 2019—Vanderbilt sophomore Rachel Strons has been selected as a SMART Scholar—which stands for Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation—by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Two students awarded prestigious Goldwater Scholarships
May. 8, 2019—Vanderbilt University sophomore Aakash Basu and junior Eric Zhang have been named Goldwater Scholars. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier award for undergraduate STEM students who show exceptional promise of becoming the nation’s next generation of research leaders.

Apr. 26, 2019—Junior Andrew Harwell has been awarded a prestigious Udall Scholarship for his dedication to environmental conservation efforts locally and globally. He will join a national cohort of exceptional undergraduates working on environmental issues and policy and health issues related to Native American communities.
Vanderbilt senior named to 2020 class of Yenching Scholars
Apr. 18, 2019—Steven Yue Heng Yang, a philosophy and economics double major who is on track to graduate from Vanderbilt this May after completing all of his course requirements in just three years, has been named to the 2019-20 class of Yenching Scholars. This highly competitive award provides a fully funded master’s degree in one of six core areas of study at the Yenching Academy at Peking University.
Quah named a Knight-Hennessy Scholar
Apr. 16, 2019—Vanderbilt senior Kris Quah has been named to the second global cohort of Knight-Hennessy Scholars. The program awards full funding for postgraduate study at Stanford University to up to 100 graduate students each year in order to develop a community of future global leaders capable of solving the world’s most complex problems.
Vanderbilt named a top producer of U.S. Fulbright students
Apr. 12, 2019—The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has announced that Vanderbilt University is among the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most Fulbright U.S. students in 2018-19. Among research institutions, Vanderbilt ranked 17th for percentage of applicants who were awarded grants.
