Vanderbilt celebrates PARK(ing) Day
Sep. 23, 2019—Faculty, staff and students participated in PARK(ing) Day—an internationally recognized event that features parking spaces turned into “pocket parks”—on Sept. 20. This year’s park focused on transportation and sustainability efforts underway on campus.
University administrators to launch staff listening tour Sept. 27
Sep. 18, 2019—Interim Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Dr. André L. Churchwell, Vice Chancellor for Administration Eric Kopstain and Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Capital and Business Services Laura Nairon will host a series of listening sessions for Vanderbilt University staff throughout 2019-20. The first stop will be at the Wyatt Center Rotunda from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.
Community collaboration leads to redesigned Fleming Yard
Sep. 11, 2019—The reimagination of Fleming Yard, an outdoor space located between Sarratt Student Center and Alumni Lawn, was the culmination of collaborative efforts among students, faculty and administrators from the Division of Administration.
Experience PARK(ing) Day Sept. 20
Sep. 9, 2019—The campus community is invited to experience PARK(ing) Day 2019 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in front of the Law School along 21st Avenue South. This year’s park will focus on transportation and sustainability efforts underway on campus.
Free bike safety class, guided city bus trip scheduled for Saturday
Sep. 9, 2019—Vanderbilt University Public Safety will offer a free bike safety class, and VUPS and WeGo will partner to offer a guided city bus trip for first-year students to Trader Joe’s, both on Saturday, Sept. 14.

University eliminates single-use plastic water and soda bottles in operations on campus
Aug. 28, 2019—As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, Vanderbilt University announced today it will eliminate all single-use plastic water and soda bottles in its operations throughout dining facilities, markets and vending machines on campus, saving more than 430,000 plastic bottles per year and over 1.7 million bottles during a graduating class’s four-year experience.
New department launched to improve employee service delivery and community support
Aug. 19, 2019—A new university department, Human Capital and Business Services, has been created to better serve employee support and development and the services that support all university divisions. The department, a merger of the functions previously supported by the former Human Resources and Business Services departments, will be led by Laura Nairon in the role of Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Capital and Business Services.
University partners with local organizations to salvage Manuel House architecture
