Flulapalooza is Sept. 27

Flulapalooza is back! Celebrate the 11th anniversary of this mass influenza vaccination event hosted by Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Sept. 27.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., all faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars and students are encouraged to attend the event at the area between Light Hall and the VA Medical Center to receive their annual flu vaccination. This is a one-day event filled with photo booths, mascots and more. You don’t want to miss out on all the fun and excitement throughout the day!

For more information about the flu vaccine and the event, visit the Flulapalooza website.

Volunteer at Flulapalooza

Volunteer opportunities are available for clinical and non-clinical staff as vaccinators, vaccinator helpers and assistance with patient flow. All employees can volunteer but must receive prior approval from their supervisor before registering for the two-hour shifts. The event is being held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the tent between Light Hall and the VA.

With manager approval, volunteers will be compensated from the employee’s department for their time. No compensation is available through the Flulapalooza event.

To register and learn more details about volunteering, visit the staff sign-up application here.

Can’t make it to Flulapalooza?

The best way to reduce the risk of getting and spreading the flu is by receiving the flu vaccination. If you are not able to attend Flulapalooza, there are other opportunities for the Vanderbilt community to receive a flu vaccine.

Vanderbilt offices can sign up for the “OHC Comes to You” program to request a departmental onsite flu vaccine event. Submit a departmental event request at OHC Comes to You.

Flu vaccines can take up to two weeks after being administered to provide full protection, so it is recommended to get your flu vaccination in September or by the end of October to ensure the greatest protection throughout the entire flu season.  However, even after October it is still beneficial to get your flu vaccine.

For individuals 65 years and older, a high-dose flu vaccine is recommended. The high-dose flu vaccine will be available at Flulapalooza for eligible individuals.
