Tips for commuting, parking on campus during current construction

Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center have daily faculty, staff and student commuters as well as many visitors each day. With construction currently underway around campus, regular notices will be released to make navigating campus easier. Here is how to navigate the areas with current closures: 

From Downtown 

  • To the parking garages: 
    • Primary access to 25th Avenue Garage—from West End Avenue turn left on 25th Avenue South, turn left on Highland Avenue, then turn right on 24th Avenue South. Enter the 25th Avenue Garage from 24th Avenue South. 
    • Primary access to West Garage and South Garage—from 21st Avenue South turn right onto Children’s Way. Alternate access is available at Pierce Avenue. 
  • To the N lots: 
    • Primary access to the N lots—from West End Avenue turn onto 28th Avenue South and follow the detour signs to access Natchez Trace. Alternate access is provided by detouring left onto 31st Avenue, then left onto Vanderbilt Place. 

From the East 

  • To the parking garages:  
    • Primary access to 25th Avenue Garage, West Garage and South Garage—travel west on Wedgewood Avenue/Blakemore Avenue, then turn right onto either 23rd Avenue South or 24th Avenue South.  
    • An alternate route is to take Wedgewood Avenue to 21st Avenue South, then turn left on Children’s Way or Pierce Avenue. 
    • Access the 25th Avenue Garage from 24th Avenue South. 
    • Access West Garage and South Garage from Children’s Way. 
  • To the N lots:  
    • Primary access to the N lots—travel west on Wedgewood Avenue/Blakemore Avenue, then turn right on Natchez Trace. 
    • An alternate route is to travel west on Wedgewood Avenue/Blakemore Avenue, then turn right on Vanderbilt Place. 

From the West  

  • To the parking garages: 
    • Primary access to West Garage and South Garage from I-440—travel east on West End Avenue, turn right on 31st Avenue/Blakemore Avenue, then turn left on either 24th Avenue South or 23rd Avenue South. 
    • An alternate route is to travel east on West End Avenue, turn right on 25th Avenue South, turn left on Highland Avenue, then right on 24th Avenue South. 
    • Enter West Garage and South Garage from Children’s Way. 
    • Primary Access to 25th Avenue Garage—travel east on West End Avenue, turn right on 25th Avenue, left on Highland Avenue, then right on 24th Avenue South. 
    • Enter the 25th Avenue Garage from 24th Avenue South. 
  • To the N lots: 
    • Primary access to the N lots—take West End Avenue to either 31st Avenue South, 30th Avenue South or 29th Avenue South to access Vanderbilt Place and Natchez Trace. 

From the South 

  • To the parking garages:  
    • Primary access to 25th Avenue Garage, West Garage and South Garage—coming from the south on 21st Avenue, turn left onto Blakemore Avenue/Wedgewood Avenue, then right on either 23rd Avenue South or 24th Avenue South.  
    • An alternate route is to turn left on either Children’s Way or Pierce Avenue from 21st Avenue South to access 24th Avenue South, or turn onto Acklen Avenue before Wedgewood, then right on 24th Avenue South. 
    • Enter the 25th Avenue Garage from 24th Avenue South. 
    • Enter West Garage and South Garage from Children’s Way. 
  • To the N lots: 
    • Primary access to the N lots—turn left onto Blakemore Avenue/Wedgewood Avenue and right onto either Natchez Trace or Vanderbilt Place.

To keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe during this time, remember the following:  

  • Be mindful of pedestrians and bicyclists sharing the roadway.  
  • Wait for pedestrians and bicyclists to use the crosswalks.  
  • Obey traffic lights and signs. 
  • Follow the advised speed limit.  
  • Use turn signals.  
  • Do not block intersections. 
  • Create a plan to leave early to ensure you arrive at work on time.
