Diermeier shares message of optimism, announces upcoming virtual gatherings with Vanderbilt community
May. 29, 2020—Incoming Chancellor Daniel Diermeier shared a message this week with the Vanderbilt community and announced a series of virtual gatherings throughout the month of June for students and their families, staff, faculty and alumni.
May. 22, 2020—Vanderbilt University has received an $8 million commitment to create the Nicholas S. Zeppos Scholarship, honoring the institution’s eighth chancellor. The Sarah and Ross Perot Jr. Foundation made the gift to recognize Zeppos’ extraordinary tenure as Vanderbilt chancellor from 2008 through 2019.
Apr. 9, 2020—Vanderbilt has lost three prominent members of the university community in recent weeks: Hans Stoll, the Anne Marie and Thomas B. Walker Jr. Professor of Finance, Emeritus; Brownlee O. Currey Jr., an alumnus and emeritus trustee; and John Loomis, an alumnus and former member of the Vanderbilt Board of Trust.
Apr. 9, 2020—John R. Loomis, a former alumni trustee on the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust, philanthropist and investment adviser, died March 31 from long-term health issues. The Larchmont, New York, resident was 90.
Mar. 27, 2020—Brownlee O. Currey Jr., an alumnus, emeritus trustee, financial services executive and entrepreneur noted for his philanthropic leadership at Vanderbilt University and in the community, has died. He was 91.
Mar. 17, 2020—The Vanderbilt University Board of Trust has established the new Ad Hoc Committee on University COVID-19 Response to support the university's actions around COVID-19.

Dec. 4, 2019—Daniel Diermeier, an internationally renowned political scientist and management scholar, has been elected Vanderbilt University’s ninth chancellor. He will begin his term as chancellor on July 1, 2020. Diermeier currently is the provost at the University of Chicago, where he previously served as dean of the Harris School of Public Policy.
