Dom Flemons Collection at Heard Libraries offers ‘treasure trove’ for scholars exploring African American influences on roots music
The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries have acquired the personal collection of Dom Flemons, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and cultural historian whose music and research have brought greater awareness to African Americans’ extensive contributions to roots music. Candelaria to step down from Blair School of Music leadership role; Rose named new dean
Vanderbilt Blair School of Music Dean Lorenzo “Frank” Candelaria, who holds the Mark Wait Dean’s Chair at the school, will step down as Blair’s lead administrator, effective Dec. 31. Celebrating LGBTQI+ History Month: The Music of Ned Rorem
To kick off LGBTQI+ History Month, the Blair School of Music faculty presents a concert of works written by and for composer and author Ned Rorem. Known for both his breadth of output for both vocal and instrumental forces, Rorem entered gay icon status through the publication of his diaries over forty years, beginning in 1966. Raheleh Filsoofi receives Tennessee Arts Commission Grant
Raheleh Filsoofi has been awarded a Tennessee Art Commission Grant for her project, “The Resonance of the Lands: Finding Identity and Place in Tennessee Through Clay, Music, and Community.” The program involves mapping and extracting clay from various locations across the city to create 25 clay instruments, taking inspiration from the traditional Middle Eastern clay darbuka.
