Nov. 20, 2019—Sallie McFague, the first woman to lead Vanderbilt Divinity School and an influential scholar on feminist Christian theology and alternatives to the traditional model of God, has died.
Oct. 31, 2019—Howard Fuchs, a professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, died unexpectedly Oct. 28. He is being remembered as an outstanding clinician, an astute teacher and a friend and supporter of many.
Oct. 30, 2019—John W. Janusek, an Andean anthropologist whose interests ranged from the development of complex societies in South America to the history of beer and brewing, died Oct. 22.
Oct. 19, 2019—Vanderbilt University Medical Center is mourning the loss of Luke Gregory, chief executive officer for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and senior vice president for business development. Gregory died Friday, Oct. 18, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Sep. 26, 2019—Martin Katahn, a retired psychology professor and best-selling author who wrote "The Rotation Diet" and other books promoting healthy weight loss and lifestyle, has died after an extended illness.
May. 6, 2019—Fred Westfield, a Vanderbilt graduate who went on to become a professor of economics at the university and teach microeconomic theory to a generation of Ph.D. students, died April 24 in Nashville. He was 92. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. at The Temple Congregation Ohabai Sholom, 5015 Harding Road in Nashville.
Apr. 30, 2019—Hervé Allet, former assistant professor of French who served as director of the Vanderbilt-in-France program at Aix-en-Provence, died April 21 in Nîmes, France, where he lived in retirement. He was 68.
Apr. 23, 2019—Germain Böer, professor of accounting, emeritus, who taught at the Owen Graduate School of Management for 41 years, died April 22. He was 81. An unwavering champion of entrepreneurship at Owen, Böer taught, advised and invested in generations of student entrepreneurs.
Mar. 21, 2019—Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology Stephen Hann, whose research focused on understanding the regulation and function of the Myc oncogene, thought to be a driving factor in up to 70 percent of human cancers, died Feb. 27. He was 67.
Mar. 5, 2019—C. Elton Hinshaw, an emeritus professor of economics at Vanderbilt who is remembered for his distinguished service to the university, died Feb. 24 in Nashville. He was 82.
Feb. 21, 2019—June Stewart, who began her career as a secretary in the Vanderbilt sports information office in 1973 and retired in 2001 as associate athletics director, died Feb. 19. She was 78.
Feb. 19, 2019—James Schorr, who started the social entrepreneurship program at Vanderbilt University, where he was an adjunct professor at the Owen Graduate School of Management and Peabody College of education and human development, has died. He was 51.
