Roos, emeritus physics professor and pioneer in recycling technology, has died
Mar. 17, 2021—Charles E. Roos, a retired physics professor who built his department’s research in areas ranging from superconducting wire to recycling technology, has died. He was 93.
Dining tents to include sustainability features this spring
Feb. 5, 2021—Recycling and food waste collection bins will be added to the dining tents on Peabody Esplanade and Alumni Lawn beginning Feb. 9. In addition, in partnership with Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Responsibility, Campus Dining will provide all undergraduate students with a set of bamboo cutlery that is reusable, 100 percent biodegradable and sustainable.

Mar. 7, 2017—In 2009 three friends and I co-founded Plastic Pollution Coalition at my dining room table, adding a fourth “R”—Refuse—to the traditional three: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Why “refuse”? Because disposable plastic is made from petroleum, is used for only brief periods and lasts forever, causing great harm to wildlife and humans.
