Diverse ’Dores Day, which allows students, staff, faculty and postdoctoral scholars to learn more about support and services offered to Vanderbilt’s diverse population, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will end at Alumni Lawn with music, giveaways, treats from local restaurants and custom-made shirts. Megan Piphus Peace, BA’14, MSF’15, is an accomplished ventriloquist and puppeteer who has performed in front of audiences across the nation, including on The Tonight Show and America’s Got Talent. In 2021, she made history as the first Black female puppeteer to work on the long-running children’s television show Sesame Street. Read More

Dr. André L. Churchwell, vice chancellor for equity, diversity and inclusion and chief diversity officer, has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus of Metro Nashville Public Schools and named to the Nashville Public Education Foundation’s Public Schools Hall of Fame for 2022. Read More

Vanderbilt has launched a new alumni affinity group for Vanderbilt’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, supporting the diaspora and beyond. The first African American to earn a doctorate in human genetics from Vanderbilt, Janina Jeff, MS'12, PhD'12, launched an award-winning podcast called "In Those Genes" that translates cutting-edge genetic research into everyday language that uncovers the lost identities of African-descended Americans through the lens of Black culture.
