Members of Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development faculty were named in the 2014 Edu-Scholar Public Presence Rankings, which recognizes university-based academics who are contributing substantially to public debates about K-12 and higher education.
The list, released today, is compiled annually by Rick Hess, an Education Week blogger and the American Enterprise Institute’s director of education policy.
Notably, two Peabody faculty were ranked in the top 25: Joseph Murphy, Frank W. Mayborn professor of education (No. 10); and Camilla Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development and professor of psychology (No. 25).
“Rick Hess’s annual ranking recognizes researchers who contribute meaningfully to public debate about the important topic of education,” Benbow said. “Scholars at Peabody seek to inform practice as well as theory, and we are pleased that so many members of our faculty are included on the list.”
Additional Vanderbilt faculty included on this year’s Edu-Scholar Rankings were:

- Richard Milner, former associate professor of education;
- Gary T. Henry, Patricia and Rodes Hart professor of public policy and education;
- Bruce McCandliss, Patricia and Rodes Hart Chair and professor of psychology and human development;
- Dale Ballou, associate professor of public policy and education;
- Ron Zimmer, associate professor of public policy and education;
- Thomas Smith, associate professor of public policy
- Matthew Springer, assistant professor of public policy and education; and
- Christopher Loss, assistant professor of public policy and higher education.
