The Vanderbilt Board of Trust has voted to extend Bruce R. Evans’ (BE’81) term as chairman for an additional three years, ending on June 30, 2030. The resolution for the extension cited Evans’ pivotal leadership in guiding the board and university through significant changes, supporting the chancellor’s leadership through the university’s growth and adaptation in a rapidly changing educational landscape. In commemoration of Chancellor Emeritus Nicholas S. Zeppos' legacy at Vanderbilt, the Board of Trust commissioned an official portrait of Zeppos that was unveiled on May 7. The portrait has been installed at the front entrance of Zeppos College. Read More

The new building will be a shared space for the College of Arts and Science, the School of Engineering and the School of Medicine Basic Sciences; it will address the growing need for updated, accessible and sustainable facilities that offer space for an open exchange of ideas. H. Rodes Hart, BA’54, who had an insatiable appetite for learning and education and contributed to Vanderbilt’s growth through his philanthropy and more than 30 years of leadership on the university’s Board of Trust, died March 30. He was 93. Read More

Alumnus, trustee emeritus and Nashville real estate visionary James Stephen “Steve” Turner, a prominent university benefactor whose gifts included funding for commissioned works for Blair School of Music signature ensembles, died Feb. 11. He was 77. Read More

Vanderbilt University officially launched the McGee Applied Research Center for Narrative Studies at a campus event on Feb. 7. Board of Trust members, university leaders, alumni and invited guests gathered at Rothschild College to celebrate the new interdisciplinary center, which will promote media literacy by providing resources to evaluate the objectivity of news coverage, digital media and other narratives. Eugene H. Vaughan, BA’55, a Vanderbilt University Board of Trust emeritus trustee and noted business and civic leader, died Dec. 9 in Houston. He was 90. Read More

In April, at the outset of its yearlong Sesquicentennial celebration, Vanderbilt launched a bold giving campaign called Dare to Grow, which aims to empower and support students, advance pathbreaking discoveries and promote radical collaboration across the university. This past May, despite skeptics, politics and a global pandemic, Ingram’s Nashville SC opened the doors of the largest soccer-specific stadium in North America: Geodis Park, a 30,000-seat facility. Already a success in the league, having made the playoffs in their first two MLS seasons while playing elsewhere, the “Boys in Gold” finally have a home of their own, where they hope not only to become a community institution but also someday lift trophies.
