Vanderbilt University may submit one nomination to the Southeastern Universities Research Association's Distinguished Scientist Award competition. This award is presented to research scientists from a SURA member institution (Vanderbilt University is a standing member) whose extraordinary work fulfills the SURA mission to “advance collaborative research and strengthen the scientific capabilities of its members and the nation.” The award comes with a $5,000 cash honorarium. Vanderbilt (VU and VUMC combined) anticipates the opportunity to nominate up to two candidates for the Moore Inventor Fellows competition.
