Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos announced today the university will use an administrative closure day, a one-time paid holiday, on Friday, July 5, giving employees an extended Fourth of July holiday weekend.

“During this long weekend, and amid the rhythm of the summer months as we prepare for a new academic year, I hope you will seek out balance—whether it’s through time with family and friends celebrating our nation’s independence, moments spent outdoors or something else that brings joy to your life,” he wrote.

Employees should consult with managers about special situations or requirements, including those who are needed to work July 5. Those essential operations employees will receive an alternate day off or be paid out at management’s discretion.
