Registered Nurse Michelle Foote-Pearce will lead an informative discussion on mindfulness, and appetizers will be provided.
“Mindfulness meditation is the practice of waking up, paying attention and being present in the moment regardless of what else is happening and without judgment,” Foote-Pearce said. “It helps to not get lost in what is beyond our ability to change. Its is a commitment to the intention of staying happy and engaged with life and living.”
Research shows that benefits of mindfulness meditation include stress relief, improved immunity, better sleep quality, increased mental awareness and clarity, and improved mood.
Research and the benefits mindfulness provides for cancer patients will be presented at the event, and the many ways to be more mindfully present will be explored. A brief experience of several types of guided mindfulness practice will be included.
