Outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. was taken 17th overall by the Baltimore Orioles. Bradfield is Vanderbilt’s 22nd first-round selection in the Tim Corbin era (2003-present), which marks the most in the SEC. Seven Vanderbilt student-athletes honored for academics
College Sports Communicators released its at-large academic all-district team, naming seven student-athletes from the Vanderbilt cross country and track and field programs. To be nominated for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of scheduled competitions, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and hold at least sophomore standing academically and athletically. Carolyn Peck, BA'88, was a standout student-athlete who helped the Commodores beat Pat Summitt’s mighty Lady Vols. She also was the first Black women's basketball coach to win an NCAA Division I women’s basketball national championship—and, at 33, she was the youngest women’s basketball head coach to win a Division I title.
