The Vanderbilt Political Review, a non-partisan political journal run entirely by Vanderbilt undergraduate students, will host the first Nashville Intercollegiate Activism Conference on Feb. 27. The one-day conference will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Nashville civil rights sit-ins and will examine how students were able to defeat segregation as well as how students can be involved in social change today. David Petraeus, will speak about his actions as commander of the surge in Iraq, the role of U.S. forces overseas and the latest developments in the surge. Vanderbilt graduates along with their family and friends will gather for the annual Senior Day address - this year by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin - indoors in Memorial Gymnasium. The 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, address was originally scheduled for Alumni Lawn, but rainy weather during the past week made it necessary to move the event indoors. Vanderbilt officials wanted to allow time for Alumni Lawn to dry out and to avoid damage before Friday's outdoor Commencement. Read More
