A new internal faculty funding program, the Scaling Success Grant, has been established, joining the existing Seeding Success Grant and Rapid Advancement Micro-grant programs. Michelle Wachter has been named assistant director of Sponsored Programs Administration, and Janiece Harrison, formerly the full-time director of SPA before retiring in December 2018, has been named interim director while the office launches a national search to find a new full-time director. George Hornberger, an established leader in the fields of water resources and sustainability and director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Energy and the Environment, retired June 30. In preparation of his retirement, the Office of the Provost launched the Climate, Environment and Energy Futures Working Group to evaluate and plan for the future of energy, environment and climate research and advocacy at the university.
