‘Perry Wallace Way’ dedicated in honor of first African American varsity basketball player in the SEC
Feb. 24, 2020—More than 200 people gathered in front of Vanderbilt University’s Memorial Gym Feb. 22 for the dedication of Perry Wallace Way, the portion of 25th Avenue South recently named in honor of Vanderbilt trailblazer and Nashville native Perry Wallace, the first African American to play varsity basketball in the Southeastern Conference.
Jan. 17, 2020—Vanderbilt University today announced that Seattle-area businessman and Vanderbilt alumnus George B. Huber, BA’79, and his wife Cathy have made a $5 million gift to support the men’s basketball program. The gift will be used to enhance facilities and support services.
Aug. 20, 2019—Turner and Stackhouse developed a mutual admiration during their time in the G League. At the same time Turner was guiding the league through unprecedented growth, Stackhouse was leading the Toronto Raptors’ affiliate, Raptors 905, to the league championship.
