Women exceed men for first time in Medical School’s history
The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine class of 1945 had no women; the class of 1959 had only one. Over the years, there was a steady increase in the number of women. In what could be called Vanderbilt's version of American Idol ñ only without the ill-tempered judge and a recording contract prize ñ University and Medical Center employees will audition Thursday, August 14, for the chance to sing the national anthem at the Vanderbilt-UT Chattanooga football game Saturday, Sept. 6. Dwayne Sagen, Vanderbilt's director of bands and an assistant dean at the Blair School of Music, will serve as one of the four judges for the audition, along with representatives from Vanderbilt Athletics, Medical Center and University administration. "The bigger an object, the easier it is to see. But it is actually harder for people to determine the motion of objects larger than a tennis ball held at arms length than it is to gauge the motion of smaller objects," says Duje Tadin, first author of the paper on the study appearing in the July 17 issue of the journal Nature.
