Our Vanderbilt community thrives on connection, shared experiences and a sense of belonging. In November, we launched the Moments That Matter campaign to recognize the moments that shape the lives of our staff, students and faculty. While we encourage you to keep sharing your stories and moments, we’ve added a new way for staff members to thank their colleagues and share that appreciation with our staff population. People, Culture and Belonging has launched Kudos, a staff appreciation platform that is designed to foster connection, celebrate contributions and strengthen our sense of belonging.
What is Kudos?
Kudos is a digital platform where staff members can recognize and celebrate each other’s efforts. Similar to using a Facebook wall, with just a few clicks, you can send a personalized message to a colleague, highlight their contributions and share your gratitude for their work and impact. It’s quick, meaningful and all about celebrating the moment—in the moment. Check out Kudos’ how-to resources.
Why appreciation matters
In a workplace as dynamic as Vanderbilt’s, every individual plays a vital role in advancing its shared mission. Kudos helps shine a light on the incredible work happening across the university while also creating an environment where staff feel valued and seen.
This ties directly into PCB’s commitment to reimagining employee appreciation at Vanderbilt and ensuring that everyone feels they belong. Research consistently shows that recognition contributes to stronger relationships, improved mental health and a deeper sense of purpose at work. How to use Kudos
- Log in: On Tuesday, Jan. 28, staff will receive an email invitation to join Kudos. Please follow the instructions in the email.
- Celebrate: Select a colleague, write a note and choose from a variety of customizable themes to make your message shine.
- Share: Send your Kudos and watch as it brightens someone’s day. You can also view and celebrate Kudos others have received.
Building a Culture of Appreciation
As we announced in 2024, PCB is re-evaluating how we show employee appreciation at VU. Kudos marks the first of many exciting changes aimed at making gratitude a cornerstone of our workplace. More than just a tool, Kudos embodies the spirit of who we are as a community—a place where we lift one another up and inspire everyone to bring their best selves to work.
