Important reminders for navigating construction zones on campus

Welcome back, ’Dores! The Vanderbilt University Facilities Department has been hard at work this summer improving and renovating campus through various projects. As you return to campus, you will notice that there are several projects still under construction. Here are some helpful resources to make navigating campus easier, by foot or vehicle. 

Things to know: 

  • 25th Avenue between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way is now open.  
  • The Pedestrian Bridge over 21st Avenue is completely open.  
  • 25th Avenue between Children’s Way and Highland Avenue remains closed to vehicular traffic but is fully accessible to pedestrians. 
  • Use the Facilities Campus Map to see the latest pedestrian routes.

This interactive campus map allows pedestrians to search any location on campus and get the latest route around the construction sites. This map also provides more details about the timeline of all projects on campus.  

Vehicles 

Updates: 

  • 25th Avenue between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way is open.  

Continuing impact: 

  • Natchez Trace is open to two-way traffic from Blakemore Avenue to Jess Neely Drive.  
  • Vehicles should use 28th Avenue to access Natchez Trace from West End Avenue.  
  • Children’s Way is completely open to two-way traffic.  
  • 24th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Garland Avenue is completely open to two-way traffic.  
  • 24th Avenue from Vanderbilt Place to Garland Avenue is one-way traffic only. 
  • The drive in front of the Studio Arts Building has been widened to accommodate two-way traffic, detouring to Garland Drive and 24th Avenue South.  
  • Jess Neely Drive between 25th Avenue and Natchez Trace is permanently closed to vehicular traffic.  
  • The Highland Avenue entrance to the 25th Avenue Garage is open; the 25th Avenue South entrance remains closed. 
  • The entrances to West Garage on Children’s Way and 24th Avenue South are open; the 25th Avenue South entrance remains closed. 

Pedestrians and Bicycles

Updates: 

  • The sidewalks along 25th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way are open.  
  • The sidewalks along Children’s Way between Natchez Trace and 24th Avenue South are open.  

Continuing impact: 

  • A pedestrian route along 25th Avenue South between Children’s Way and Garland Avenue will always be open; follow the posted signs.  
  • Natchez Trace and 25th Avenue South are connected by a route behind the David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center.  
  • The south sidewalk along Jess Neely between Natchez Trace and 25th Avenue South is open. This route is subject to change; follow the signs to navigate the area.  
  • Bicyclists should dismount before using the pedestrian bridge over 21st Avenue South.  

All pedestrian and vehicular routes are subject to change. Updates will be shared via MyVU and on the Facilities Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts.
