Changes to 24th Avenue vehicle, pedestrian routes for utility work

Things to know:  

  • Nashville Electric Service will be working along 24th Avenue and a section of Children’s Way to install utility poles Feb. 17–20 and Feb. 24–25.  
  • The Blair School parking lot off 24th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way will be closed Feb. 17–25. 
  • On weekdays (Feb. 19–20) work will occur 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—outside of peak traffic hours. 
  • On weekends (Feb.17–18, Feb. 24–25) work will occur for 16–18 hours daily.  
  • West Garage entrances will be affected; daily parking users should consider using Sony, Wesley or Terrace garages Feb. 19–20. 

Pedestrians 

For the duration of the project (Feb. 17–20 and Feb. 24–25) 

  • The west sidewalk on 24th Avenue between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way will be closed. 
  • Pedestrians should use the east sidewalk along 24th Avenue. 
  • To access the Blair School of Music, pedestrians can use the southern sidewalk along Children’s Way. See map.  
  • Consult the pedestrian, bicycle maps for the latest routes in the area.  

Vehicles 

Feb. 17–20 

  • Southbound lanes of 24th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way will be closed; one northbound lane will be used to maintain two-way traffic.  
  • Children’s Way will be closed from 24th Avenue South to the entrance of the West Garage.  
  • The Children’s Way entrance to the West Garage will not be accessible from 24th Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Feb. 19–20. People should use the 24th Avenue entrance to the West Garage during this time. Daily parking participants coming from 24th Avenue South should use the east garage entrance, turning left immediately after entering to find the ramp going up.  
  • Work will take place daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.; lanes will be open outside of these set work hours.  

Feb. 24 

  • Children’s Way will be closed for multiple hours, including the entrance to the West Garage. 
  • Southbound lanes of 24th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way will be closed; one northbound lane will be used to maintain two-way traffic. 
  • The intersection of 25th Avenue South and Children’s Way will be closed.  

Feb. 25 

  • Children’s Way will be closed between 24th and 25th avenues, including the entrance to the West Garage. 
  • Southbound lanes of 24th Avenue South between Blakemore Avenue and Children’s Way will be closed; one northbound lane will be used to maintain two-way traffic. 
  • The intersection of 25th Avenue South and Children’s Way will be closed.

Alternative Parking and Commute Options

Daily Parking:  

1 – West Garage; 2 – Sony Garage; 3 – Wesley Place Garage; 4 – Terrace Place Garage 
  • The university offers the daily parking program for eligible faculty, staff and graduate and professional student commutes.   
  • Locations: Terrace Place, Wesley Place and Sony garages. These garages include the ability to track available spaces so users can better plan commute times.  

West Garage: 

Feb. 24–25

  • The West Garage entrance/exit on Children’s Way will be closed, commuters should use the east side entrance/exit.  
  • Daily parking program users are encouraged to use Sony, Wesley and West garages. 

25th Avenue Garage:  

  • University-affiliated parkers should enter the garage from Highland Avenue.  
  • Medical center-affiliated parkers should enter the garage from 24th Avenue.   

VandyRide: 

  • VandyRide service will be affected by this project; use the Passio app for the latest updates.  

 Alternate routes are established around the construction sites. If you are in the area, please watch for signs, follow the guidance of flaggers and security personnel, and plan for delays.
