New Aspiring LeadeReads book club series to discuss ‘Dare to Lead’ in November

Aspiring LeadeReads

Are you—or do you wish to be—a brave, daring leader?

“One of the most important findings of my career is that daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100 percent teachable, observable and measurable. It is learning and unlearning that requires brave work, tough conversations and showing up with your whole heart. Easy? No. Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default. Worth it? Always. We want to be brave with our lives and our work. It’s why we’re here.”  –Dr. Brené Brown

Aspiring LeadeReads is HR Employee Learning and Engagement’s new professional development book club series. All are invited to participate in the fall 2022 read, Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts by Brené Brown.

In this four-part series guided by the book, we will engage in deep discussions, activities and reflections around leadership, vulnerability, courage, empathy and more. The series will be hosted virtually on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m.–noon
  • Tuesday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m.–noon
  • Tuesday, Nov. 15, 11 a.m.–noon
  • Tuesday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m.–noon

Employees who want to expand their knowledge of leadership topics, engage in meaningful conversations and build their community across the university are welcome. This learning experience is particularly relevant for employees who aspire to serve in a leadership position—either as a people leader or operational leader—in the future.

Aspiring LeadeReads is a Level 3: Collaborate and Create series, and you can expect to engage in activities, large-group discussions, small-group discussions in breakout rooms, and reflections. We strive to create a learning environment where each participant feels comfortable, engaged and included.

Participants who get the most out of our learning experiences are heavily engaged during sessions and set aside time to read and sometimes re-read the book chapters before each discussion session. Please note that this is a four-part series, with each discussion session lasting an hour.

As a participant, you commit to:

  • reading the relevant chapters in Dare to Lead before each session;
  • showing up to each one-hour discussion session prepared to participate fully, share openly and listen attentively;
  • participating in activities during each discussion session; and
  • holding confidentiality for discussion sessions.

We anticipate that interest will exceed the number of seats available for this pilot offering. To express your interest, we invite you to complete this interest form by Oct. 6. As a bonus, 20 randomly selected participants will receive a complimentary copy of Dare to Lead.

All Vanderbilt University employees are eligible to participate in Aspiring LeadeReads.
