Vanderbilt University will host a satellite meeting of the first Public Summit of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education. The VU campus event, set for Tuesday, Nov. 19, is sponsored by the Office for Inclusive Excellence and Faculty Affairs in the Office of the Provost.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education will host its first Public Summit Nov. 19 and 20 at the University of Washington. The summit aims to identify and elevate promising practices for preventing sexual harassment in higher education. Through a combination of plenary and concurrent sessions and panel discussions, the event will serve as an opportunity for members of the collaborative and the broader higher education community to gather information, engage in dialogue, and gain diverse perspectives on how to effectively prevent sexual harassment.
As an Action Collaborative member institution, Vanderbilt is invested in facilitating broader participation in the summit. The Nov. 19 satellite meeting is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in The Commons Center Multipurpose Room (Room 237). The satellite meeting will stream a webcast of the live summit sessions in Seattle. During breaks in the webcast, Vanderbilt will host two local panels for university faculty, staff and students in attendance focused on understanding the results of the recent AAU Campus Climate Survey and the Faculty and Postdoctoral Fellow Sexual Harassment Survey and assessing next steps.
In addition to its participation in the National Academies’ Action Collaborative and various survey efforts, Vanderbilt is committed to developing progressive and innovative solutions and practices—including the Provost’s WAVE (Women’s AdVancement and Equity) Council—to ensure that everyone at the university has an opportunity to succeed, regardless of the gender with which they identify.
