Direct deposit of pay becomes mandatory for VU employees in 2017

Beginning Jan. 1, all non-union VU employees (including faculty, staff, post-docs, temps and student workers) will need to enroll in direct deposit of their pay. This requirement is intended to make our payroll process more efficient for both employees and Vanderbilt.

Direct deposit has many benefits. You have immediate access to your money on payday without having to pick up a paycheck, deposit it, and possibly wait for the check to clear your bank. If you are on vacation or out of the office on payday, no worries—your pay will still be deposited in your account automatically.

Signing up is easy—just follow the directions on the Direct Deposit page in C2HR, or complete the paper enrollment form and submit it to HR.

If you do not have a bank account, you can join the Vanderbilt University Credit Union. It’s open to all employees and offers a variety of banking options to meet almost all needs. New hires can even sign up for an account before they start work by showing their offer letter. The First Tennessee Payroll Card also will remain an option.

Employees who receive paper checks after Jan. 1—including new hires whose direct deposit enrollment has not taken effect by their first payday—will need to bring their IDs and pick up checks in person at HR (10th floor Baker Building) during regular business hours.

Important note: Since University HR will be closed Dec. 23, 2016–Jan. 2, 2017, for winter break, paychecks will not be available for pick up until 8 a.m. on Jan. 3. Please sign up for direct deposit as soon as possible, so you don’t have to wait for a paper paycheck issued during this time.
