Peabody education faculty named among top influencers

Nine Vanderbilt faculty members were selected for inclusion in the 2016 Edu-Scholar Public Presence Rankings, released Jan. 6.

American Enterprise Institute Director of Education Policy Frederick M. Hess compiles the list each year to recognize 200 university-based scholars who shape public discussions of education.

Scholars are ranked based on metrics such as presence on Google Scholar, books authored, Amazon ranking, education press mentions, Congressional Record mentions and Twitter activity.

Vanderbilt’s top ranked professor was Peabody College of education and human development’s Joseph Murphy at No. 32. Mathew G. Springer was included in the Top 10 for junior faculty (No. 6) and 2nd for publications.

Eight of the nine Vanderbilt academics have been on the list in previous years. New to the list this year was Peabody’s Jason Grissom.

Peabody faculty on the list this year, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Dale Ballou, associate professor of leadership, policy and organizations and director of the Tennessee Consortium on Research, Education and Development;
  • Camilla Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development and professor of psychology;
  • Lynn Fuchs, Nicholas Hobbs Professor of Special Education and Human Development;
  • Ellen Goldring, Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy and chair of the Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations;
  • Jason Grissom, associate professor of public policy and education;
  • Gary Henry, Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Public Policy and Education;·
  • Joseph Murphy, Frank W. Mayborn Professor of Education and associate dean for special projects;
  • Matthew Springer, assistant professor of public policy and education; and
  • Ron Zimmer, associate professor of public policy and education.

Vanderbilt was among the Top 6 institutions for number of academics represented on the list.
