Join Team Vanderbilt in Race for the Cure Oct. 29

Walking, running, pushing a baby carriage or strolling with your dog – all of these activities will be encouraged during this year’s Greater Nashville Race for the Cure. The annual breast cancer fundraising race/walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Maryland Farms in Brentwood.

The Race for the Cure is held every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raises funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breast cancer research and support activities for patients. Some Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center cancer investigators receive support grants from the Komen organization, and approximately 75 percent of the money raised is used for activities in the Middle Tennessee area.

Vanderbilt has formed its own race/walk team and is inviting the community to participate in the event. Those who like to snooze on Saturdays can “Sleep in for the Cure” and make an online donation.

The 5K course begins and ends near the Maryland Farms YMCA, and opening ceremonies begin at 8:15 a.m.

Members of Team Vanderbilt who register by Oct. 24 will be able to pick up their race packets, including a T-shirt, on campus. Participants will receive an email with details about the information packets.
