Jacob Alexander Schroeder, BA’22, of Boise, Idaho, died Dec. 6, 2024. He was 25 years old. He attended Vanderbilt as a Curb Scholar in Creative Enterprise and Public Leadership, was a Buchanan Library Fellow, chaired the American Enterprise Institute’s Executive Council at Vanderbilt, was a student government senator and a recipient of the Ainslie World Travel Fellowship. Studio 608, a creative space located in the Central Library, provides Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff with opportunities to explore new modes of narrative storytelling through audio. The state-of-the-art studio can be used to record interviews, conversations, panel discussions and other formats that capture the diverse perspectives and experiences of the university community. Last fall, five Buchanan Fellows at the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries began a project to research Vanderbilt University’s first decade, from 1875 to 1885, and curate an online exhibit about what they discovered. In the process, the fellows learned how to find supporting materials, interpret historical objects, examine historically significant documents from Special Collections, and place all of them in the context of the university’s—and the nation’s—history.
