Heard Libraries strengthen engagement with Metro Nashville Public Schools through innovative literacy initiatives

As MNPS works to address low literacy rates among its students, the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries have stepped forward to partner on novel solutions. Some of those solutions have included having Vanderbilt students serve as library ambassadors in Metro schools and bringing in community partners—like independent booksellers Parnassus Books and Book’em—to help. Ellen Goldring, vice dean of Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development, Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor, and professor of educational leadership and policy, has been elected a member of the National Academy of Education. Goldring’s research focuses on the intersection of education policy and school improvement with an emphasis on educational leadership. Read More
