Earlier test timing and future schedule update
This year’s AlertVU spring full-scale test will take place on Jan. 29—earlier than in previous years. To better align with operational and preparedness efforts, Vanderbilt will conduct the annual spring AlertVU test in January from now on.
What is AlertVU?
AlertVU is Vanderbilt’s emergency notification system. It is used to alert students, faculty, staff and visitors in the event of any emergency that poses an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community.
AlertVU notifications are always delivered to a user’s Vanderbilt email address. Users may choose to also receive alerts by:
- Mobile phone (voice or text)
- Landline
- Personal email address
- VandySafe app (push notifications)
- Desktop alerts on computers
Please take a few minutes to review and update your contact information to ensure that alerts reach you quickly.
How to Update Your Contact Information
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff AlertVU contact information is maintained in Oracle Cloud. All faculty and staff should review their contact information to ensure that notifications are delivered to their preferred personal points of contact.
Access your Personal Details page in Oracle Cloud (log in using single sign-on) to review or update your AlertVU information. Instructions are available online.
Students
Student AlertVU contact information is maintained in YES. Students are encouraged to review and update their contact information in YES if they have not already done so. Instructions are available online.
AlertVU for Family Members, Friends and Visitors
Individuals who are not affiliated with Vanderbilt may sign up to receive AlertVU notifications by creating a profile through the AlertVU Community Portal.
Desktop Alerts from Alertus
Vanderbilt also utilizes Alertus, a desktop alerting application that delivers AlertVU messages directly to computers across the university.
- Vanderbilt-owned computers: Desktop Support staff have already installed Alertus. No action is required to receive desktop alerts.
- Personal computers: Faculty, staff and students may install Alertus on their personal machines to receive desktop alerts while working off campus or on non-university devices.
