U.S. Ambassador Nathaniel C. Fick to Visit Vanderbilt for Lecture Series on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats on Feb. 28

Nathaniel C. Fick, inaugural U.S. ambassador at large for cyberspace and digital policy, will visit campus on Wednesday, Feb. 28, to participate in a fireside conversation to discuss national security issues from the cyberspace and digital policy perspective. Faculty and staff are invited to register here. 

Fick was sworn into his current position on Sept. 21, 2022, five months after the establishment of the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy. Before joining the State Department, Fick was a technology executive and entrepreneur. He was CEO of the cybersecurity software company Endgame until its acquisition by Elastic in 2019, at which point he led Elastic’s information security business internationally. He also spent time working with management teams to build technology businesses and in national security research. 

Fick’s specialized talents and expertise in the realm of business and technology have been widely recognized. In 2018, he was named by Fast Company magazine as one of the “100 Most Creative People in Business,” and Endgame was selected by Forbes as one of the “100 Best Cloud Companies in the World.” 

At the start of his career, Fick served as a Marine Corps infantry and reconnaissance officer, including combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His book about that experience, One Bullet Away, was a New York Times bestseller, a Washington Post “Best Book of the Year” and one of the Military Times’ “Best Military Books of the Decade.” He graduated with high honors in classics from Dartmouth College and holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
