Faculty invited to online conversation with chancellor, provost about state of higher education

Between high profile college president resignations, pressure from all sides of the political spectrum and the challenges that come from encouraging open dialogue and civil discourse, higher education is at a unique moment. Faculty are invited to join a webinar on Thursday, Jan. 18, at noon to discuss the state of higher education. The webinar will be hosted by Faculty Senate Chair Andrea Capizzi and feature brief remarks from Chancellor Daniel Diermeier, followed by a question and answer session with Diermeier and with Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs C. Cybele Raver. Registration is required.

“While all key indicators are trending upward for Vanderbilt, higher education is facing extraordinary criticism at all levels,” Diermeier said. “Headwinds from criticism can make our work more difficult. But we are moving forward nonetheless—as Vanderbilt always has—with faith in our values, in our mission and in our shared purpose. I look forward to talking about these challenges and our response with faculty.”

Faculty may submit questions in advance when registering for the webinar or through the chat feature during the presentation. The webinar will be recorded and shared by the Faculty Senate.
