Workshop on using generative AI in human learning and development research to be held November 16

Experts from across Vanderbilt University will participate in a curated conversation exploring possibilities for using generative AI to augment research on human learning and development on Thursday, November 16. The workshop is sponsored by the Peabody Research Office and the College’s LIVE Initiative (LIVE stands for Learning Incubator: a Vanderbilt Endeavor).

Grounded in real examples from faculty who are using AI in their work, the workshop will unpack both exciting potentials and common pitfalls, including support for thinking through prospective applications to research.

Panelists include James Bisbee, assistant professor of political science; Amy Booth, professor of psychology and human development; Scott Crossley, professor of special education; Ole Molvig, assistant professor of history; Amanda Goodwin, professor of literacy education; and Jesse Spencer-Smith, interim director and chief data scientist, Data Science Institute. The panel will be moderated by Alyssa Wise, LIVE Director and professor of technology and education.

The workshop, “Navigating the Possibilities of Generative AI to Support Human Learning and Development Research,” will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. in 117 Mayborn. Registration is required.

LIVE’s mission includes developing partnerships to gain mutual understandings of the value of university-industry collaborations for both early-stage companies and mature corporations that are reinventing themselves. LIVE explores and develops internal relationships with other Vanderbilt centers as well as the researcher community within Vanderbilt.

The Peabody Research Office (PRO) provides research support to faculty and research staff at Peabody College. Support includes identifying grant opportunities from internal and external funding sources and assisting with developing and submitting award winning proposals. PRO also encourages faculty and staff in building collaborations among those with shared interests and aids them with subject recruitment and partnership development through their network of community connections.
