At Vanderbilt, fostering a deep sense of belonging for every community member is a core value. To that end, the university has launched a web portal called “You at VU” to help the community find resources to bolster their sense of belonging and nurture their growth.
The You at VU portal is a one-stop spot where students, staff, postdocs and faculty can find ways to connect with others, engage across campus, and discover well-being support and resources. A Quick Guide on the portal points the Vanderbilt community to resources for engagement, connection and well-being, including:
- Employee Learning & Engagement
- Office of Faculty Development gateway
- Student Engagement portal
- Vanderbilt identity centers
- Student Care Network
- Title IX
- Project Safe
- Office of Health and Wellness
Campaigns throughout the year will focus on building a sense of belonging and supporting individuals’ well-being. These will build on the progress the university has made over the past year, including the expansion of affinity groups for employees, evaluation of opportunities for students to connect with organizations on campus and the search for a vice chancellor for people, culture and belonging.
As Chancellor Daniel Diermeier told our incoming first-year, transfer and Next Steps students at the 2023 Founders Walk: “We are selective in whom we choose to join our ranks, but once you are admitted to this remarkable community, you need never doubt your place in it.
“For we are a community assembled not for cutthroat competition or to confer superstar status on an anointed few, but to enable every one of us to realize our unique potential—to make one another, and the world, better.”
You at VU emphasizes Vanderbilt’s commitment to creating an environment in which all members of our dynamic and varied campus community—with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives—can engage in dialogue, learning, innovation and discovery and feel that they belong.
Each person who is a part of our campus shares one commonality: You belong here.
