Four with a ‘Dore: Kareena Gor

(@vanderbiltu / Vanderbilt University)

In the Four with a ‘Dore series, we’re getting to know Vanderbilt students four questions at a time. In today’s installment, meet Kareena Gor from Charlotte, NC, a Class of 2025 student with majors in child studies and Spanish with a minor in language sciences.

Q: Where did you find your sense of belonging on campus?
A: VUcept is a group of 92 of the most empathetic, supportive and excited people I know. Coming back to campus this year was super exciting and I met so many people who continue to be some of my best friends. That’s where I found my community and it’s really cool that we all come together to help other people.

Q: What is the best event you’ve been to at Vanderbilt?
A: I really liked celebrating Holi last year because that was a great opportunity to share a part of my culture with my classmates and friends. Several hundred people showed up which was so exciting. I haven’t celebrated Holi since I was little, so it was really cool to reconnect with that part of my culture and to have other Vandy students around to experience that with me.

Q: How have you embraced collaboration at VU?
A: I’m currently an undergraduate research assistant in the Language Development Lab, and it’s incredible to see how we all come together to complete the many steps involved in research. From recruiting to advertising to working with participants—there are so many parts to conducting a study and I love how everyone works together for a shared goal.

Q: What is your favorite tradition on campus?
A: I really like Move-In Day. I remember driving up to Stambaugh on my first day and all these students were so excited to greet me and carry my stuff in. It was so fast and efficient and everyone was so happy; it was such a relief. On the other side now as a VUcept, I get to meet all these different families on such an emotion-filled day. Getting to be one of the first faces they see when they come to campus is so special to me.
