Vanderbilt University hosts celebration to honor Blue Ribbon teachers empowering next generation of leaders

Vanderbilt University will host the Blue Ribbon Teacher Awards reception on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Faculty Commons Building.

Metro Nashville Public Schools, the Nashville’s Agenda Steering Committee and the Nashville Public Education Foundation created the Blue Ribbon Teacher Awards to recognize top teaching talent in the area’s public schools.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper, Adrienne Battle, director of Metro Nashville Public Schools, and members of the Nashville Public Education Foundation will attend the ceremony, which this year honors 50 teachers who have received exceptional ratings through the state evaluation system and made tangible impact on student outcomes and success.

Vanderbilt University Provost C. Cybele Raver and Nathan Green, vice chancellor for government and community relations, will provide remarks at the event.

Since the program’s founding in 2014, more than 350 Blue Ribbon Awards have been given to teachers. Winners are determined through a rigorous selection process that includes a community panel review of evidence of outstanding teaching practices. Those selected receive a cash prize.  Viewers can watch the live stream at 6 p.m.
