More than 1,100 turkeys, 28 tofurkeys and 650 cutting boards were given to Vanderbilt University faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows during Turkey Toss 2021. In addition, more than 450 turkeys and tofurkeys were donated directly to Second Harvest Food Bank after the Dec. 17 event.
For the second year in a row, Turkey Toss was transformed into a drive-through experience in a parking lot at the corner of 21st Avenue South and Terrace Place. A pedestrian area also made the event accessible for those who used public transportation, walked or biked to the event.
Turkey Toss is a longstanding Vanderbilt holiday tradition in which the university expresses thanks to faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows for their service. Approximately 1,800 employees participated this year.
More than 50 volunteers, including Chancellor Daniel Diermeier and other senior leaders, made this year’s 11-hour Turkey Toss possible by helping with distribution of the turkeys and other gifts.
