Infrastructure, utility work begins in campus historic core near Kirkland, Neely and Benson

Starting Monday, May 17, work will begin in the “historic core” of campus adjacent to Kirkland Hall, Neely Auditorium and Benson Science Building. This work will update the underground infrastructure, including the installation of new chilled water lines in support of FutureVU’s sustainability goals.

In order to install the new lines and to preserve the trees and landscape in the area, the construction team will be drilling and performing horizontal boring, which periodically may cause louder-than-normal noise levels. The work also will include the temporary closure of the parking area between Kirkland and Alumni halls and at times nearby sidewalks.

The project, set to conclude in August, will affect pedestrian and accessible routes in the area. Signage will be placed on site as necessary to identify alternate pedestrian and accessible routes.
