New ‘Inclusion at Vanderbilt’ web portal launches

The university has launched an updated web portal to help inform students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars and staff of key equity, diversity and inclusion resources and activities.

The “Inclusion at Vanderbilt” web portal will highlight the latest work being done to fulfill the enhanced equity, diversity and inclusion goals announced on July 1, 2020, by Chancellor Daniel Diermeier, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan R. Wente and Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer André L. Churchwell. The site will include initiatives dedicated to students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars and staff; information about support networks as well as alumni affinity groups; and details regarding equity, diversity and inclusion offices and centers across campus.

“Values of equity, diversity and inclusion must be embedded in our culture, and this new portal will help shine a light on the progress we’re making and the gap between where we are and where we want to be.”

“At Vanderbilt, we are committed to support each and every member of our community to reach their full potential,” Diermeier said. “Values of equity, diversity and inclusion must be embedded in our culture, and this new portal will help shine a light on the progress we’re making and the gap between where we are and where we want to be.”

Wente, along with Churchwell and William H. Robinson, vice provost for academic advancement and executive director of the Provost’s Office for Inclusive Excellence, are leading the work to support the university’s diversity commitments.

“Equity, diversity and inclusion serve as a source of strength for our university,” Wente said. “This ‘Inclusion at Vanderbilt’ web portal brings together for the first time all of the initiatives taking place across our community and, importantly, shows how they align with our aspirations.”

Churchwell and Robinson were appointed to permanent leadership positions in June.

“Truly advancing the culture of our campus, our community and our country to address racial injustice and bias takes hard work and dedication,” Churchwell said. “With the help of our campus community, we are energized to take on the task.”

“We have much work ahead of us, but with a deep commitment to a culture that values diversity and embraces inclusion and access, we will address the challenges we face as a campus community,” Robinson added.

The committee’s members were announced Aug. 13.
