Class of 2020 celebrated with virtual toast

Interim Chancellor and Provost Susan R. Wente was joined by deans, administrators, former and current faculty heads of house on The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons, coaches, Board of Trust members and alumni in saluting the Class of 2020 with a virtual toast to mark the start of their journeys as Vanderbilt graduates.

“Your class is really special to me for so many reasons,” Wente said. “You have made history and a lasting impact on our university. I know you will continue to make an impact, and you’re going to go forward to solve the world’s greatest challenges. … You will make a difference.”

Each graduate of the Class of 2020 recently received a champagne flute and other commemorative items from the university. Graduates are encouraged to raise a glass and join the toast and share photos and videos using the hashtag #VU2020.

The virtual toast is part of ongoing celebrations to recognize the Class of 2020’s many achievements and to look ahead to graduates’ return to campus for their postponed Commencement ceremony and related events on May 1 and 2, 2021.
