Vanderbilt Athletics lit up the video board at Hawkins Field on March 30 with a special tribute to all the health care workers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and elsewhere who are on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. With athletic competition currently suspended, members of the Commodore community have found creative and inspiring ways to lend their support to the fight. Among them were Football Head Coach Derek Mason, who teamed up with local restaurants—and enlisted the help of fellow coaches and student-athletes—to prepare and deliver meals to hospitals, medical clinics and emergency response teams. Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Tom Bossung, MEd’92, led a group of athletic trainers who volunteered their time to assist staff at VUMC. And Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jerry Stackhouse and Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin—along with NBC News host Willie Geist, BA’97—dropped in on Zoom classes during the final week of school.
