Bryon Walker, a longtime Vanderbilt Mail Services staff member and fixture at the Station B Post Office, died Dec. 31 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 55.

A native of Ohio, Walker had worked at Vanderbilt since 1996. He was in charge of the stamp window, ordering stamps and supplies and accounting at the Station B Post Office, where he came in contact with numerous students, faculty, staff and administrators over his more than two decades on campus.

“Bryon knew everyone, and so many people continue to ask about him on a daily basis,” said Mickey Anglea, associate director of business services for the Division of Administration, who said that Walker continued to man the stamp window until early December 2018.

Anglea also noted Walker’s mischievous nature. “Bryon was a very loyal Vanderbilt employee who always liked to joke with his everyday customers. In fact, one of his favorite things to do was to add $20 to the cost of any sale, just to watch the surprise on the customer’s face. He would then say, ‘The $20 is my tip.’ Bryon will be sorely missed by his co-workers, family, friends and students.”

A private funeral service for family members is planned in Ohio.
