The Division of Administration invites the campus community to participate in and enjoy PARK(ing) Day 2018.
PARK(ing) Day, set for Friday, Sept. 21, and supported by the Nashville Civic Design Center, is celebrated across the world each year as parking spaces are transformed into temporary parks and green spaces for the day. The university’s park, comprising 18 parking spaces located at the corner of Broadway and 20th Avenue, will highlight aspects of FutureVU and its guiding principles.
The park will feature sustainable features and materials and demonstrate how land used for parking can be transformed into community space. Take a relaxing break from the office or class and enjoy local and sustainable art, games and food, including complimentary breakfast starting at 9 a.m. and Las Paletas popsicles at 12:30 p.m. The first 100 visitors also will have the opportunity to plant their own succulent to take with them.
Last year, Vanderbilt took home top honors at the city-wide awards celebrating the best community “parklets,” placing in the “Wow Factor,” “People’s Choice” and “Text to Vote” categories.
Vanderbilt’s participation in PARK(ing) Day is part of its series of pop-up events held on campus to activate outdoor spaces.
