Vanderbilt has long taken pride in fostering a culture of respect and acceptance in which diversity and inclusion are celebrated. The C.A.R.E. (Civility, Appreciation and Respectful Environments) Committee is seeking stories from faculty and staff about instances when they’ve witnessed or received an expression of kindness involving a co-worker at Vanderbilt. These stories will be posted to the C.A.R.E. website.

“I am delighted to be part of a grassroots effort to promote workplace civility at Vanderbilt,” said Andy Richter, co-chair of the C.A.R.E. Committee. “By inviting everyone to submit their stories about kindness in the workplace, we have indirectly encouraged everyone to be intentionally kind to others. We believe the seeds sown by our efforts will have a long-lasting positive effect on our Vanderbilt community.”
Listening to others, an offer of help, or an encouraging word can be the bright spot in one’s day. When a workplace has a foundation in civility and kind words and acts, it leaves little room for bullying and harassment.

The C.A.R.E. Committee is a grassroots effort to empower each faculty and staff member at Vanderbilt to encourage civilized behaviors in our work environments. It is sponsored by the University Staff Advisory Council, the Medical Center Staff Advisory Council, the Faculty Senate, and Human Resources (VU and VUMC).
