The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) announces a funding opportunity to catalyze innovative, collaborative ovarian cancer-related projects. The goal of this award is to provide funding for the generation of preliminary data required for the submission of an external ovarian cancer-relevant grant application (e.g. R type, DOD). One to two $50,000 grants will be awarded for one-year projects beginning in June 2017, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on measurable progress of impact. Funds are available to faculty from all schools at Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Ranking will be by peer review and will be based on novelty and scientific merit. A major criterion will be the perceived probability that the research project will lead to the submission of a competitive research grant application to the NCI or similar major source of grant funds. The purpose of this pilot program is not to serve as the sole source of funding for small projects, but rather to catalyze the generation of relevant preliminary data needed to prepare a successful grant application for a larger study. Preference will be given to those projects that involve both basic and clinical investigators and that are translational in nature. Other factors to be considered in the review will be the areas of expertise of the investigator(s) and the value of the project to the cancer research priorities of the VICC.
Interested applicants should submit a research proposal (maximum of two pages) and biosketches for each of the proposed investigator(s) by May 1, 2017, to M. Allison Bowen at email@example.com. Upon review, the principle investigators of projects that are determined to meet the criteria of the award mechanism will be asked to give a brief presentation on their proposed project to the VICC Senior Leadership for final funding selections.
