First graders needed for longitudinal reading study

children-readingThe Education and Brain Sciences Research Lab in the Department of Special Education at Peabody College is seeking participants for a longitudinal study investigating children’s reading progress from second through fifth grades.

Participants should be 6 to 8 years old and in first grade, with or without learning disabilities, who have learned English as their first language. Parents should complete an online screener here to see if their child is eligible. If the child is eligible, a 30-minute onsite screening will be scheduled. Participants receive $50 for the screening visit. Children will make follow-up visits once per year in second, third, fourth and fifth grades.

Research is being conducted by Laurie E. Cutting, Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Special Education and professor of pediatrics, and Dr. Sheryl Rimrodt, assistant professor of pediatrics. The study is sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health.
