If you’ve visited Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a meeting or doctor’s appointment, you know it can be difficult to find your way around the various buildings. Thanks to a new mobile application called WalkWays, navigating VUMC is now a bit easier.
WalkWays provides turn-by-turn directions to get anywhere within the Vanderbilt Hospital, The Vanderbilt Clinics, Medical Center East, and the Medical Arts Building. The app uses iBeacons and machine learning to automatically pinpoint your location in the building and give you directions from your current location. You can ask the app for directions to clinics and other departments, and the app will provide directions from where you are currently standing.
Outside of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the app will allow you to see clinics on the medical campus and plan routes before arriving for your appointment.
If you don’t want to install the app on your phone (or have run out of storage space), there is a text-based option to get directions. Signs with specific phone numbers have been put up at main VUMC entry points. Just text the name of what you’re trying to find to the phone number on the sign to get photo-based directions to your location.
WalkWays is available in Apple’s app store and the Google Play store.
