Vanderbilt employees, families turn out by thousands for 2016 Tailgate

More than 3,000 employees, along with their families and friends, came out to celebrate at Vanderbilt’s annual Employee Tailgate Sept. 10. VU and VUMC employees gathered in Recreation Field #1 for food and fun before the Commodores defeated MTSU, 47-24.

Famous Dave’s brought the BBQ, veggie burgers and hotdogs, while Krispy Kreme brought doughnuts. The youngest Commodores enjoyed a private play area with bouncy houses, slides and Jurassic Park-themed inflatables, face painting, corn hole and more.

Like the football game afterward, pulling off Employee Tailgate was a team effort:

  • The Vanderbilt spirit squad, band and a DJ kept us moving, while new men’s basketball coach Bryce Drew got us motivated.
  • The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center and Health Plus staff handed out special treats and information about healthy eating.
  • The University Staff Advisory Council and Vanderbilt Athletics marketing gave out awesome swag and information on upcoming events.
  • VUPD and Vandy EMS kept us safe and secure.
  • The Vanderbilt University Credit Union awarded one lucky attendee a $500 gift card.

Other gracious vendors included Aetna, Ascend Federal Credit Union, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Carl Black Chevrolet and Whole Foods.

Thanks to all who came out. Check out this year’s event, by the numbers:
