The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center is offering two new group fitness classes starting in January.
Don’t know how to hula hoop? No worries! Hoophoria is a beginner-friendly, fun and playful hula hoop dance class. Participants will work on basic hula hoop tricks and dance skills and build them into a hoop dance routine that they can bust out at parties, in the park or on the beach. Class instructor Nephie will start new routines every four weeks, and hula hoops will be provided. The class is available Mondays at 7 p.m. and Tuesdays at 4 p.m. starting Jan. 9.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m., try out Tabata with Kathy. The science behind Tabata, a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), shows that this brief but challenging workout can increase your aerobic and anaerobic systems more than a longer, more moderate session of exercise. Kathy will start with a warm up and move on to intervals of cardio and strength exercises with rest periods. Class will end with a cool down and stretch.
