The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center offered a new youth swim team, the Vanderbilt Acorns, this summer. The season was a success, with each participating swimmer improving his or her stroke times, gaining valuable friendships and learning the value of friendly competition. As a result, the team has extended its season to include the upcoming fall and spring seasons.
The goal of the Vanderbilt Acorns is to offer Nashville youth the opportunity to improve existing swim skills and learn the value of participating on a team. Main areas of emphasis include enhancing community, teaching and encouraging sportsmanship, and creating a fun-filled yet competitive swim experience for participants and families. Youth who are 4-18 years of age and can swim one length of the pool in any stroke are eligible to swim this fall.
Cost for the 2015 fall swim season is $165 per swimmer, which includes a non-refundable one-time $50 deposit and t-shirt for the swimmer. Please note that the cost does not include team swimsuit or swim cap, which must be purchased separately.
Practices are held on Saturday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and Sunday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. for the 6 and under age group; Saturday from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. and Sunday from 2:15 to 3 p.m. for the 7-9 age group; and Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. for the 10 and up age group.
